  • Are “I Can’t Breathe” And “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” The Quotes Of The Year? AP Thinks So

Is “I can’t breathe” the quote of the year? And does that make Eric Garner and Michael Brown the “People of the Year”? The Associated Press must think so, since they’ve declared that the most memorable quotes of 2014 include both “I can’t breathe” as well as “Hand ups, don’t shoot.”

To be fair, the AP hasn’t settled on any single quote as the winner. Other entries include Donald Sterling’s rather wordy, “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people.” Yes, it would appear that most of 2014’s memorable quotes have something to do with racism. That one rolls right off the tongue.

    But wait, there’s more!

The Associated Press has also called attention to Bridget Anne Kelly’s infamous “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee” quote that spurred Chris Christie’s Bridge-Gate problems. And perhaps to not be completely one-sided, Hillary Clinton received a nod for her “dead broke” gaffe.

Those are some uplifting memories right there. Wow, 2014 really sucked.
