• “DE BLASIO, OUR BACKS HAVE TURNED TO YOU” Banner Flies Over The Hudson River

The conflict between New York City police and Mayor Bill de Blasio reached new heights Friday when a plane flying a banner reading “De Blasio, Our Backs Have Turned To You” was seen soaring over the Hudson River.

Former cop John Cardillo reported that a “large and unified group of current and retired NYC police officers, detectives, & supervisors” asked him to post a statement about the anti-de Blasio banner they organized once it could be seen high in the sky.

“We are outraged by the mayor’s incendiary rhetoric, and for facilitating the current hostile climate towards the NYPD. We understand that the department and even our own unions can only go so far in their public condemnation of the mayor as to not irreparably damage the working relationship with the city, or future contract negotiations,” the statement read.

“It is our opinion that Mayor de Blasio’s dangerous and irresponsible comments about his and his wife’s concern for their son’s safety at the hands of the NYPD fueled the flames that led to civil unrest, and potentially to the deaths of PO Wenjian Liu and PO Rafael Ramos, as well as the continued threats against NYPD personnel. The Mayor shows us no respect, and encourages the public to follow his lead.”

The banner flew almost a week to the day that dozens of grieving NYPD cops literally turned their backs on de Blasio as he walked past them on the third floor of Woodhull Hospital where Officers Wenjian Lu and Rafael Ramos were pronounced dead.

The video above shows footage of the family of Officer Ramos, along with thousands of law enforcement officials, who came to Christ Tabernacle Church in Glendale on Friday afternoon to pay respect to the slain officer.

“Today we weep with the Ramos family, the New York Police Department and the nation as we mourn the loss of our dear brother,” Rev. Ralph Pastor Castillo said. “He was a gift to our church.”

Here’s a video that appears to show the anti-de Blasio banner flying over the Hudson River.
