When We Were Eating Our Turkey OPEC Launched Their Attack On America

Forty years ago OPEC stopped the shipment of crude oil to the United States and brought on rationing of gasoline. Many of us alive today remember waiting to buy gas based on our odd or even numbers on our licensee plate. At that time oil became a weapon and OPEC has dictated to economic growth or decline of many economies including America.

Now that America is the largest producer of natural gas in the world and rapidly moving to be the largest oil producer in the world, OPEC has to stop what is going on or they may well no longer have any influence on the world and America will dictate the price of crude.

OPEC is trying to flood the world and the US with oil. The logic is the oversupply will drive down the price. If the price of crude falls far enough America will stop drilling for new sources of oil. If the price falls enough they believe that the cost of alternative energy will not be profitable and investors will abandon these new technologies because they will not be cost effective against cheap oil.

If America takes the bait OPEC will continue to keep supply up to insure that all hope is abandoned and then the will start raising the price.

America will start shipping liquefied natural gas globally next year. The US congress will be debating, perhaps before the end of the current secession or early next year in the new Congress the lifting the export ban on US crude that was put into effect 40 years ago. We are closer to becoming energy independent than most people think. We have the potential to dismantle OPEC and in turn dramatically reduce the flow of funds to terrorist’s organizations like ISIL.
