Duh. Thank you, Captain Obvious.
Earlier this month, Michael Sam told TMZ reporters that he’s not playing for an NFL team because he’s openly gay. Now, Sam claims that several gay NFL players reached out to him during his stint in the National Football League.“Very few reached out to me and pretty much just told me their gratitude and how thankful they were that I had the courage,” Sam revealed to Oprah Winfrey in a documentary special due to air on Saturday night. “They wished that they had the courage to come out.”
Sam was drafted in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams. He was cut and signed to the Dallas Cowboys’ 10-man practice squad, but was also let go.
“There’s a lot of us out there,” Sam tells Winfrey. “I’m not the only one. I’m just the only one who is open.”
And perhaps that’s Michael Sam’s biggest problem.
Most people (99.99%) don’t care about who sports players chose to and chose not to have sex with. People just want to watch and enjoy the game, and not have a player’s sex life scandalized, shoved in their faces, or celebrated on national TV.Michael Sam should get over himself.
The narcissism of it all is truly breathtaking. It’s cheap and unnecessary.
