• Friendly Fire: Officer Critically Wounds Undercover Cop At McDonald’s

An undercover cop in New Mexico was shot multiple times by another officer during a drug bust Friday.

An Albuquerque police lieutenant shot the undercover cop over a $60 meth deal in a McDonald’s parking lot, the Albuquerque Journal reports. Officers went in to bust the meth exchange when a shooting broke out, wounding the undercover cop.

The officer remains in critical condition after multiple surgeries, the lieutenant is on administrative leave and an investigation is underway.

A fundraising account, apparently endorsed by the police department on Twitter, has been created for the officer’s medical expenses on the crowd funding site, gofundme.com. The account’s webpage says the fundraiser worked closely with the injured officer for several years.

“This detective has been with APD for approximately 10 years and has served his community with integrity and bravery during that time,” the page reads.

The account has received 43 donations totaling $2,565.

“I am asking my fellow officers and community to gather support for this detective during his time of need,” the page reads. “Any help we can give to aid in his road to recovery will be greatly appreciated!”

This is one of two recent incidents in Albuquerque where police have been shot, the Journal reports.

A man shot officer Lou Golson three times during a DWI traffic stop Jan. 3, KOAT 7 reports.
