• LEADERSHIP: Canada’s Stephen Harper Denounces Jihad Unequivocally

“The international jihadist movement has declared war. They have declared war on anybody who does not think and act exactly as they wish they’d think and act. We may not like this and wish it would go away, but it’s not going to go away, and the reality is we are going to have to confront it.”

Those remarks were courtesy of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, which he delivered today at a press gathering.

Now contrast Harper’s remarks with the White House press briefing that took place this afternoon.

Josh Earnest, who yesterday went out of his way not to use the word “terrorism” in describing the Paris attack, said that the White House will “redouble” its efforts to explain — wait for it — “what the tenets of Islam actually are.”

    No, seriously:

“There are some individuals that are using a peaceful religion and grossly distorting it, and trying to use its tenets to inspire people around the globe to carry out acts of violence. And we have enjoyed significant success in enlisting leaders in the Muslim community, like I said, both in the United States and around the world to condemn that kind of messaging, to condemn those efforts to radicalize individuals, and to be clear about what the tenets of Islam actually are. And we’re going to redouble those efforts in the days and weeks ahead.”

    God help us.
