Speaker John Boehner made it clear that the House will not pass another bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security.
Boehner said the “House has done its job,” and it’s time for the Senate to do theirs.Boehner encouraged members of the press to ask Senate Democrats “why they don’t get off of their asses and do something?” His frank comments came at the end of a closed Republican Conference meeting Wednesday morning.
Congress has hit a wall on immigration.
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said his chamber is in no rush to vote or debate on the immigration provisions attached to a Homeland Security spending bill. The Department of Homeland Security may be partially shutdown if something isn’t done soon.
“I can tell you I think it’s clearly stuck in the Senate,” McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters Tuesday. “And the next step is obviously up to the House.”
The department’s cash flow runs out in two weeks.
