A North Carolina mom of four is believed to be the winner of a $188 million jackpot, but it’s what she plans on doing with the money that restored my faith in humanity.
Marie Holmes, 26, told WETC-TV that after receiving her payout, she’s planning on donating a portion of her winnings to her church. “First I’m going to pay my tithes, because I wouldn’t have none of it if it wasn’t for God,” she said. From The Blaze:
I’m sure the pastor of her church is caught in a predicament, no? On the one hand he can’t condone his parishioners playing the lottery, but on the other hand, there’s no way he turns down what could be an $18 million dollar donation to his church, right?Holmes also expressed her gratitude for being able to provide for her children — one of whom has cerebral palsy — in a way that she previously could have never imagined, noting that she plans to set up college funds and buy a new home.
But Holmes, who said she doesn’t play the lottery often, also wants to be sure that she teaches her kids that money shouldn’t change them.
“I just want them to understand that money doesn’t change you. It can help you. They don’t have to worry about that,” she said. “They can go to college, on me. And they don’t have to worry about nothing. I’m glad I can do that for them.”
But as predicaments go, this is not a bad one for him to be caught in.
