Yesterday morning State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said America and our allied partners around the world “cannot win this war by killing” ISIS, adding that the longterm goal to root out terroristic motivations should focus on what leads people to join these groups “whether it’s lack of opportunity for jobs.”
Later Tuesday evening on CNN, Harf stood by her comments, saying that “we cannot kill every terrorist around the world, nor should we try,” she said in an interview with Wolf Blitzer.“How do we get at the root causes of this? Look, it might be too nuanced an argument for some — like I’ve seen over the last 24 hours, some of the commentary out there — but it’s really the smart way that Democrats, Republicans, military commanders, our partners in the Arab world, think we need to combat this.”
This might come as a surprise to Marie, but many Islamic terrorists come from monied families–including Osama bin Laden. And as for ISIS, they are now the richest terror group in history.
Jobs won’t win this war. Bombs and bullets will.
