• Ohio Man Bikes 30 Miles To Work In Freezing Weather

Cincinnati man Fraser Cunningham doesn’t let small things like -10 degree weather stop him from hopping on his bicycle at 5:30a.m. and trekking to his GE engineering job, then back home again. The distance runs a little over 30 miles altogether.

Cunningham, 56, has been in that blistering routine for more than 18 months.

Some days it’s so cold out that his eyes freeze open.

“It’s better than freezing shut,” he said.

Cunningham is now determined to beat out his old personal best continuous streak of biking to work which was one year and eight-and-a-half months. He hasn’t skipped a day’s commute since July 22, 2013.

Oddly enough, he’s fond of the cold temperatures.

“I think I like winter better than summer in Cincinnati. I can always stay warm in the cold by putting on more layers and pedaling harder,” Cunningham said.

“I’m going to characterize myself as a bit of a stubborn person.”

He says his humongous beard, at 16 inches, helps keep his chin warm. His wife, Kathy, calls it his “chinsulation.”
