• Unions Celebrate ObamaCare With #ACAIsWorking Hashtag

Labor unions took to social media Monday to celebrate the fifth anniversary of President Barack Obama signing his healthcare overhaul into law.

“On the fifth anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, we celebrate how the law is working to provide quality, affordable health coverage to more Americans than in four decades–and the ongoing fight of SEIU members to promote and protect it,” the Service Employees International Union declared on its Facebook page.

“Today 16.4 million more people have health insurance, 2.3 million young adults are able to stay on their parents’ plans, and millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions can no longer be denied coverage,” the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees noted on its Facebook page.

Labor unions, along with many others on the left, have defended Obamacare on numerous occasions through the years as critics argued the law actually increases costs and undermines reliable coverage.

Earlier in the month, several labor unions rallied in front of the U.S. Supreme Court to oppose a case, King v. Burwell, which could end Obamacare tax credits for millions of Americans. The plaintiffs in the case argue the law only specified tax subsidies for individuals in states that set up their own exchanges, meaning residents in all 34 states without exchanges can’t receive the tax subsidies.

During a conference call Tarren Bragdon, president of the Foundation for Government Accountability, along with Rep. Paul Ryan detailed whats wrong with Obamacare, including the language currently being challenged in court.

“The plain wording of the ObamaCare law only authorizes those subsidies to flow through state exchanges,” Bragdon claimed.

“Look, this is a terrible law,” Ryan argued. “This law will not last; it will implode under its own weight for lots of different reasons.”
