Eight-Year-Old Told She Can’t Read On The School Bus Because ITS TOO DANGEROUS

An 8-year-old Canadian girl was told she can’t read on her school bus ride, because it’s too dangerous.

Sarah Auger’s bus driver told her to stop reading on her 20-minute ride to and from school, because “other students might stand up to see what she was reading, or she could poke herself in the eye with the corners of the book,” reported CBC News Montreal.

Auger’s father, Daniel Abel, said he’s proud of her love of reading, and is upset about the new rule. “I find it stupid and useless,” he told CBC News.

He complained to the school, but although board members acknowledge reading on the bus is “obviously” not dangerous, they told Abel the bus driver gets to make the rules.

“The responsibility of a school bus driver is to transport students safely,” Mario Champagne, general secretary and director of communications for the Hautes-Riviere school board told CBC News.

The board also told Abel all stuff belonging to students, including books, has to stay in their bags during the bus ride. “Any object, be it a book, a toy or electronic device can be a potential danger when a young child … gets up to go and get it while the bus is in motion,” the board said in a statement.
