Fifteen Muslim men from different parts of Africa are charged with throwing 12 Christians overboard to their deaths–because the 12 were Christians–as the group fled Africa to Europe, Italian police said Thursday.
The Christians Nigerians started praying to God when their raft started to deflate. A Muslim asked, why not Allah and that’s when the fight broke out.According to reports, “One of the Muslims on board the rickety craft ordered him to stop, saying: ‘Here, we only pray to Allah.’ ”
Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in Washington Friday said he is deeply troubled by the refugee issue as a whole.
“The problem is not of our region. it’s a problem of human dignity. we are absolutely committed to solving this problem and I am confident that if it will become a priority that we will achieve results,” he said.
Italy already overwhelmed by the steady stream of refugees making the roughly 200-mile trip from Libya has been particularly on edge since ISIS gained a hold on Libya. Back in February ISIS beheaded 21 Egyptian Christians there and threatened to come to Rome.
The chaos is hastening the desperate exodus of people from all over Africa and the Middle East through Libya. These people were caught in another tragedy as a gas explosion in a holding facility in Libya badly injured many. Their handlers wouldn’t let them go to the hospital and eventually forced them onto boats.Thousands of migrants — most from war-ravaged areas of Africa and the Middle East — make the perilous journey across the Mediterranean in hopes of reaching Europe. Ten thousand people attempted to flee to Europe from Libya this week alone. Four hundred died along the way and the peak season for these sorts of dangerous voyages is only now just beginning. Italy cannot resettle all of these refugees and is asking European countries for help.
