• Saudi-Led Coalition Bombs Runway To Deter Iranian Supply Plane From Landing In Yemen

    The Saudi-led coalition bombed an airport’s runway in Yemen’s capital city of Sanaa Tuesday afternoon to prevent an Iranian plane from landing.

    According to Reuters:

    Brigadier General Ahmed Asseri told Reuters the plane had not coordinated with coalition authorities and the pilot had ignored a warning to turn back. The bombing of the runway made it unusable for planned aid flights, he said

    Saudi Arabia is leading an airstrike campaign to oust Iran-backed, Houthi rebels and restore Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi to power. Although Saudi Arabia announced it an end airstrikes, the coalition continues to target Houthi strongholds around the country. (RELATED: Saudis Ignore US, Ignore Iran, Continue Pulverizing Yemen)

    U.S. officials have expressed concern over Iran’s support for the Shiite rebels, potentially leading to confrontation with Saudi Arabia. A U.S. warship moved into Yemeni waters to deter any potential weapons shipments to Houthi rebels last week. Iranian ships and the USS Theodore Roosevelt have since withdrawn.
