• Vladimir Putin Wanted Steven Seagal as Envoy for Russia-US Relations

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed during a meeting with President Obama that the pony-tailed, Buddhist movie star Steven Seagal be named an honorary consul of Russia and act as an intermediary between the Kremlin and the White House

Putin reportedly stunned Obama with his request and a U.S. official who was at the meeting said “Our reaction was, ‘You’ve got to be kidding.'”

President Obama was — in a word — flabbergasted.

Putin wanted to give the veteran martial arts actor official status to act for Russia in Arizona and California. He made the suggestion to Obama in June 2013 at Lough Erne in Northern Ireland, during the G-8 Summit, although reports of the request are just coming to light.

The Russian President President Vladimir Putin regularly spends time with Seagal. Both men are  martial arts fans. Putin has trained in judo, karate and sambo–a Red Army self-defense art developed in the early 1920s.

Seagal, 63, has professed his admiration for Putin to the Moscow Times, saying he considers Putin a “brother” and “one of the greatest world leaders, if not the greatest world leader, alive today.”
