• Leftist Kook Natalie Portman Calls Benjamin Netanyahu ‘Racist’

Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman sounded off on Israeli politics and said she is “very upset and disappointed” by the reelection of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m very much against Netanyahu. Against. I am very, very upset and disappointed that he was re-elected,” Portman said. “I find his racist comments horrific.”

The Israeli-born actress emphasized that she did not want to use her position as a celebrity to promote a political position, despite calling Netanyahu a “racist.”

“What I want to make sure is, I don’t want to use my platform [the wrong way],” she said. “I feel like there’s some people who become prominent, and then it’s out in the foreign press. You know, shit on Israel. I do not. I don’t want to do that.”

The reporter pointed out that Portman has embraced her “Jewishness”

“She’s been fearless in proclaiming her Jewishness,” he wrote, “even though she now lives in a country where anti-Semitism is terrifyingly on the rise.”

Portman moved to Paris in November and was asked if she feels nervous about living in a country in which anti-Semitism is on the rise.

“Yes,” she said. “But I’d feel nervous about being a black man in [the United States]. I’d feel nervous about being a Muslim in many places.”

Portman described herself as “quite leftist” in relation to Israeli society, but said she feels alienated and like a capitalist in Paris.

“You really feel like a capitalist, [and you feel the] socialist difference in a major way. Like, the strike thing is a real phenomenon,” she said. “ You think it’s just a stereotype, but it’s totally the case there. It’s really about like ‘giving it to the man.’”

The 33-year-old Oscar winner admitted that she does not know where she keeps the Oscar she received in 2011 for her starring role in Black Swan, because she does not believe “in worshiping false idols.”

“I was reading the story of Abraham to my child and talking about, like, not worshiping false idols. And this is literally like gold men. This is literally worshiping gold idols — if you worship it,” she said. “That’s why it’s not displayed on the wall. It’s a false idol.”
