A Muslim cleric during a question-and-answer segment on live television warned that married men who masturbate could make their hands pregnant in the afterlife.
A viewer called into so-called televangelist Mücahid Cihad Han’s show during a live broadcast on Sunday saying he could not stop masturbating although he was married, even during his holy pilgrimage to Mecca.Han responded that masturbation was a sin in Islam.
“Moreover, one hadith states that those who have sexual intercourse with their hands will find their hands pregnant in the afterlife, complaining against them to God over its rights,” he said, referring to what he claimed to be a saying of Prophet Muhammad.
“If our viewer was single, I could recommend he marry, but what can I say now?”
He advised the viewer to “resist Satan’s temptations”.
There are varying opinions on how permissible masturbation can be according to Islam. The Koran makes no mention of it, leaving Muslim scholars and clerics to make their own interpretations.Few Islamic scholars consider masturbation forbidden, with most considering it disliked or offensive. Some even say it is permissible in certain circumstances, such as avoiding temptation to commit adultery.
Han who has more than 12,000 followers on Twitter was widely mocked on social media after making the statement.
“Are there any hand-gynecologists in the afterlife? Is abortion allowed there?” one Twitter user asked.
“So you think that being pregnant is a God-given punishment?” another user asked.
