• Peter King: Rand Paul Should Be A Democrat, ‘Totally Unqualified’ to Be President

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) suggested Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who said hawks in the Republican party created ISIS, run as a Democrat and said Paul is “totally unqualified to be commander-in-chief” Thursday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports.

“I think Rand Paul should be a leading contender for the Democratic nomination for president,” King, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee who used to serve as that panel’s chairman, said. “This is the classic, liberal, left wing, anti-Bush, anti-Republican type of propaganda spewed over the years.”

“Rand Paul does not belong in the Republican party when he carries that message. You can have honest differences of what should be done in Iraq or Syria. To say it was Republican or Republican policies, Lindsey Graham or John McCain that caused the growth in ISIS—that’s totally untrue,” he continued.

King labeled Paul an “isolationist” who “belongs back in the 1930s.”

“The fact is ISIS was basically destroyed by end of 2008. Rand Paul should know that. Why he’s playing this game—whether NSA or whether it’s ISIS or whatever—he’s an isolationist,” he said. “He belongs back in the 1930s with the Charles Lindbergh types. He belongs with civil liberties people on the left that oppose strong security measures. For him to misread ISIS shows me he’s totally unqualified to be commander-in-chief.”

Paul has also gotten such pushback from Govs. Chris Christie and Bobby Jindal, and former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania since saying in an interview that aired Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that the rise of ISIS is due to “the hawks in our party who gave arms indiscriminately, and most of those arms were snatched up by ISIS.”

The libertarian-leaning Rand Paul famously holds non-interventionist views on foreign policy, and opposes the Patriot Act, NSA surveillance programs, and much of President Barack Obama‘s drone policy.
