Violent Incidents Mar Summer Kickoff In The Nation’s Capitol

The District of Columbia experienced a string of violent incidents over Memorial Day weekend, leaving four dead and at least seven wounded.

The violence started Friday afternoon when police responded to a stabbing in Northeast D.C. When they arrived police found a man with multiple stab wounds. The man, Stephen Clark, 24, later died in the hospital, The Washington Post reported.

Early Saturday morning, another man was shot and killed in the Southeast quadrant of the city.

When police arrived they found the man, Anthony Osgood, 29, and another woman who had been shot, but it wasn’t clear if they knew each other. No one was arrested in the shooting.

In a span of just eight hours, from Sunday night to Monday morning, six people were shot, one fatally, and three people were injured in separate robbery attempts, the Washington Times reported.

Sunday evening a man, Devonte Reed, 29, was shot and killed, though his shooter, who was also injured in the shooting, was arrested and charged with murder.

Two separate robberies in Northwest D.C. saw three people shot. In the first, a robber shot a man in the foot after a scuffle happened when the robber demanded the man hand over his phone. The second robbery occurred when three people were standing on their front porch and a gunman told them to hand over their money.

For some reason the robber became angry and started shooting wildly at the victims, hitting one in the leg and another in the hand. He fled the scene in a car, but only made it a few blocks before crashing into a fire hydrant. Police were still unable to apprehend the robber.

Monday night in Shaw, another Northwest D.C. neighborhood, a woman, Tamara Gliss, 31, was shot dead by a man on a dirt bike before the man fled the scene. Police are still looking for the shooter.

Request for comment from a Metropolitan Department spokeswoman was not returned.
