Disgraced anchorman Brian Williams who is four months into his six-month suspension for inconsistencies and false statements he made about his reporting will leave “NBC Nightly News.”
But, he will likely join the ilk of Al Sharpton, Ed Schulz, Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow over at MSNBC.Williams was the number 1 night news anchor, then he lost all credibility when he admitted on February 4 that he embellished his account of being on an aircraft that was hit by enemy fire while covering the Iraq war in 2003. He apologized to viewers. NBC then opened an investigation into Williams and uncovered at least 10 instances of exaggerated accounts of his reporting.
MSNBC has experienced double-digit-percent ratings declines this year so the agreement is probably a way to revitalize what has been a flagging venture at NBC.
Meanwhile, Lester Holt, who is serving as Williams’ fill-in since the anchor was suspended in early February, will permanently take over the reins of ‘NBC Nightly News.’
NBC is expected to announce the changes Thursday.
