• Congressional Intern Arrested For Trying To Bring Gun Into Capitol

An intern on Capitol Hill was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly tried to bring a handgun into an office building for Congressional members.

The intern was coming to work as he normally would at 9 a.m. on a Monday morning, but this time he accidentally forgot to leave his pistol at home, Fox News reported.

Police identified the intern as Joshua Wheeler, 25, of Atchison, Kansas, and said the gun was not loaded.

According to Politico, Wheeler is an intern for Rep. Lynn Jenkins and has worked for her since May 18.

A spokesman for Jenkins’ office told Politico the intern “used poor judgement,” and was immediately placed on temporary leave when he learned about the arrest.

“It is our current understanding this was an accident and we are in full cooperation with the Capitol Police to resolve the situation,” Thomas Brandt, Jenkins’ spokesman, told the website.

Capitol Police charged Wheeler with carrying a pistol without a license and having an unregistered firearm, which are both violations of D.C. law.

He is currently being held at the Capitol Police Headquarters near the Capitol, according to Roll Call.
