The New York Times’ ridiculous decision to publish full-length stories on Marco Rubio and his wife’s driving record and another story about what it called a “luxury speedboat” that Rubio spent $80,000 to buy is being bashed by everyone from MSNBC host Joe Scarborough to Daily Show host Jon Stewart.
Jon Stewart took his shots at the New York Times, noting that the financially fledgling paper had decided to treat “inconsequential gossip like serious concerns.”“How is this front page news?” Stewart asked on Wednesday night’s Daily Show. “I can’t think of a single person who would be bothered by this.”
Stewart found himself flummoxed over the Times’ coverage about how Senator Rubio spent $80,000 on a boat while he had other debts. The boat, however, was not the glamorous cruise ship the New York Times tried to make it out to be. In fact, the boat is actually a fishing boat as the seller’s website proves.
Stewart also slammed the Times’ laughably unserious description of Rubio’s house:
“Oversized windows!” Stewart shouted. “Oh, what’s the matter, senator? The normal amount of light isn’t good enough for you?”“…an in-ground pool, a handsome brick driveway, meticulously manicured shrubs and oversize windows.
The full clip is well worth the watch because it’s not everyday that a committed liberal like Jon Stewart slams a liberal paper like the New York Times in defense of a conservative running for president.
