• Judge Forbids Woman From Using Cellphone For Two Years

A Michigan judge banned a 23-year-old woman from using a cellphone for two years.

Judge Stewart McDonald of Clinton County District Court forbid Mitzi Nelson from using a cellphone or any kind of portable texting electronic device for two full years because of her involvement in the September death of cyclist. Authorities said she hit the cyclist because she was distracted by her phone while driving, Fox 21 reports.

“I don’t think she has a right to have a cellphone,” McDonald said. “I think it’s a privilege.”

Jill Byelich, 35, was wearing a reflective vest and was on the right side of the road when Nelson fatally hit her. The husband of the deceased woman is the one who suggested she be banned from using a cell phone.

Nelson was sentenced to six months in jail, 24 months of probation and 150 hours of community service. She also has to pay $15,600 in restitution and $1,500 in fines and fees.
