• Shooter Taken Down At Little Rock Air Force Base

A gunman arrived near the gate of Little Rock Air Force Base on Monday morning at 9:15 a.m. and began shooting.

Security personnel at the base immediately returned fire at the shooter, who is not part of the military, near the Vandenberg gate, THV11 reports.

After trying to break through the gate, the man was quickly wounded and rushed to UAMS Medical Center. He is in critical condition and his identity is still unknown. Another bystander was taken to North Metro Medical Center, as well, though for apparently unrelated reasons. That bystander has since been released. Soon after the shooting occurred, the Jacksonville Police Department arrived on the scene, with the FBI and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives trailing shortly behind.

Officials have blocked the main gates to the base while conducting a thorough investigation. Lockdown is now over, and so the Harris and Arnold gates have been opened, though the main gate is still closed.

Investigators using a robotic machine are inspecting the gunman’s vehicle, a maroon Ford Expedition.

Residents of community have been told by officials to stay away from the scene of the shooting.

“The safety of base members and their families are of base leaders’ utmost concern,” Air Force officials said in a press release.
