Newly-minted Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said that he would love to have talk show host Oprah Winfrey as a vice-presidential candidate during an interview with George Stephanopoulos Tuesday.
“Back in 1999, when you were thinking of running as the Reform Party candidate, you told Larry King that you’d consider Oprah for vice president,” Stephanopoulus noted.“I like Oprah,” Trump said defensively. “What can I tell you?”
“Is she still on your shortlist?” Stephanopoulos asked
“She’s great, she’s talented, she’s a friend of mine…” Trump said. “I think Oprah would be great. I’d love to have Oprah. I think we’d win easily, actually.”
Some believe Trump’s candidacy will resonate with voters, yet he faces the perception that he’s not a serious candidate. The Democratic National Committee mocked Trump in a statement released just after he announced his presidential bid Tuesday.
“Today, Donald Trump became the second major Republican candidate to announce for president in two days,” DNC national press secretary Holly Shulman said. “He adds some much-needed seriousness that has previously been lacking from the GOP field, and we look forward hearing more about his ideas for the nation.”Send this to a friend
