Israel’s Foreign Policy Chief Called Gulf Arabs ‘Allies’

The director general of Israel’s Foreign Ministry called Gulf Arab neighbors “allies” while speaking on the Iran deal in New York City Wednesday.

“What we have is a regime on a roll that is trying to conquer the Middle East,” said Dore Gold, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. “And it’s not Israel talking, that is our Sunni Arab neighbors — and you know what? I’ll use another expression – that is our Sunni Arab allies talking.”

Gold, an adviser for the Likud Party, dubbed Gulf Arab countries “allies” twice while speaking on issues with Iran deal at a presentation organized by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

Iran and six world powers reached an agreement to limit its nuclear capabilities in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions in mid-July.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a vocal critic of the agreement, says it won’t prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Saudi and Israeli representatives have held at least five secret meetings about negotiations with Iran since early 2014, showing how historic enemies share concerns on the issue.

Earlier this year, Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer said, “Israel and the Arabs have a very similar view of the deal that is emerging right now with Iran. When Israelis and Arabs are on the same page, people should pay attention.”
