• Officials Averted Terror Attacks Against US Military In Europe

    British and Italian authorities arrested Islamic State sympathizers in connection with allegedly planning terror attacks that would target U.S. military personnel.

    Junead Khan, 24, was arrested July 14 and charged Tuesday with intending to carry out terrorist acts. “Khan allegedly was planning to run over a U.S. military member with a car and attack him with a knife, potentially while wearing a suicide vest,” ABC News reports. Khan and his uncle were also charged with trying to join Islamic State in Syria.

    On Wednesday, Italian officials detained two Islamic State supporters who allegedly threatened to attack a military base where about 100 U.S. military personnel are stationed. “The men – a Tunisian and a Pakistani national – are accused of targeting Ghedi Air Base, near the northern city of Brescia, which is home to the 704th Munitions Maintenance Squadron of the U.S. Air Force,” according to NBC News(RELATED: FBI Foiled Suspected Fourth Of July Attacks, Says Director)

    Suspects Briki Lassaad and Waqas Muhammad planned to train with Islamic State in Syria, The Associated Press reports. They downloaded a pamphlet titled, “How To Survive In The West,” including bomb-making information, preparing to join Islamic State.
