Perry wrote that “Trump-ism” involves “a toxic mix of demagoguery and nonsense” in a Monday op-ed for National Review.
“Being president of the United States is serious business, not a reality TV show,” he wrote.
Trump fired back at Perry saying the former governor “doesn’t understand what the word demagoguery means” and “should be forced to take an IQ test” before the first GOP debate.
Perry was the first GOP presidential candidates to denounce Mr. Trump’s controversial remarks on illegal immigration and the two have feuded since.
He said that Trump disqualified himself for president when he suggested Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a former prisoner of war during Vietnam, was not a hero and that he preferred those who did not get captured.
Perry, who served in the Air Force, added Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Trump’s comment was “a bullet that went through John McCain and hit a lot of us that were in the uniform in this country” and demanded an apology.Trump has skyrocketed in presidential polls amid the back and forth between the two. Perry on the other hand has fought to solidify a position in next month’s GOP debate.
