• Trey Gowdy Held Back Tears As He GRILLED Homeland Security Sec. Johnson on Deadly Sanctuary Cities

The always-fierce and fiery South Carolina Congressman became emotional Tuesday during a heated hearing over illegal immigration and so-called sanctuary cities.

Gowdy’s frustration came after Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson refused to back a federal crackdown on sanctuary cities, saying, “I do not think we should mandate the conduct of state and local law enforcement through legislation.”

“The last time I looked we had a supremacy clause [in the Constitution], so federal law trumps state law, and God knows it trumps the law in San Francisco,” responded Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.).

There’s been intense pressure on sanctuary cities since the violent murder of a young San Francisco woman by a felonious illegal immigrant, who had been deported several times.

“To me, he is exhibit A that we don’t have control of over the border,” Gowdy said “Why was somebody who was in federal prison … released to a sanctuary city?”

“You’d have to ask the Bureau of Prisons,” Johnson replied.

On the five cities that flat-out won’t deport illegal criminal aliens Gowdy asked, “How the hell can a city tell you no?”

“San Francisco may have been a sanctuary city for Sanchez but not for that young lady,” Gowdy said.
