• Dead Texas Deputy’s Wife Calls Husband ‘Tough’ And ‘Loyal’ In Gut-Wrenching Open Letter

Kathleen Goforth’s husband, Darren, was murdered in cold blood at a Houston gas station Friday night, and now she wants the world to know exactly what kind of a man her husband was.

In an open letter, Goforth describes her husband as a man “guided by his internal compass”:

There are no words for this. All the language that I know is inadequate for what I want to express. But for Darren, I will try. I can’t describe him with clichés and platitudes. I need to do better than that; he deserves better than that.

My husband was an incredibly intricate blend of toughness and gentility. He was loyal…fiercely so. And he was ethical; the right thing to do is what guided his internal compass. I admired this quality, perhaps, the most. For that is what made Darren good. And he was good. So, if people want to know what kind of man he was… This is it. He was who you wanted for a friend, a colleague, and a neighbor.

However, it was I who was blessed so richly that I had the privilege of calling him my husband and my best friend.

Goforth was putting gas into his cruiser Friday night around 8:30 p.m. when Shannon Miles allegedly came up behind Goforth and shot him in the head exectuion-style.

Miles then allegedly shot him again several times after Goforth fell to the ground.

Shortly after the shooting, police released still images showing a man driving away from the scene in a red Ford Ranger.

Police first questioned Miles around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, after initial reports indicate his mother may have turned him in. He was arrested shortly after.
