• Man Charged With Murder After Chasing Down Home Intruder

A Kentucky man is facing a murder charge after shooting a home intruder.

Deontae Yarnell, 22, says he came home to find two men who had broken into his house. He chased them out of the house and a block down the street, firing multiple gunshots, Wave 3 News reports.

When one of the men made it to a fence and began to climb it, Yarnell fired again, fatally wounding the man.

Now Yarnell up on murder charges.

Kentucky passed a “Stand Your Ground” law in 2006, a type of law that provides protections for people shooting in self-defense.

The law came into question after George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin in Kentucky and claimed defense. The incident drew national scrutiny of the law.

While the intruders did break into Yarnell’s home, chasing them down the street may be too much of a stretch for the protection of the law.

“It is not one where a person is authorized to chase after an intruder and then run him down and shoot him,” Attorney Thomas Clay told Wave 3 News. “I think it would be very questionable if that defense would be available under the circumstance of this case.”

Yarnell is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
