• Police Manhunt Underway For Bank Robber Turned Cop Killer

A manhunt is underway for a convicted bank robber turned Memphis cop killer.

Police named Tremaine Wilbourn, 29, as the man who allegedly shot Memphis Police Officer Sean Bolton during a Saturday night traffic stop.

He is a convicted bank robber who was out on supervised release, and police say there were 1.7 grams of marijuana and a digital scale in his vehicle when the fatal traffic stop occurred.

“When you look at this individual, you’re looking at a coward,” Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said in a press conference. “This is a coward. You murder a police officer for less than two grams of marijuana.”

Wilbourn is charged with first degree murder and has a $20,000 reward for his arrest.

“You literally destroyed a family,” Armstrong said. “Look at the impact that it had on this department, this community, this city for less than 2 grams of marijuana; a misdemeanor citation and a fine.”

Bolton had worked at the department since 2010. He saw an illegally parked 2002 Mercedes-Benz on Saturday night around 9 p.m. He approached the vehicle and a struggle broke out between the passenger and Bolton.

The passenger fired several shots at Bolton, killing him. The passenger and driver fled, but the driver later turned himself in and was released without a charge.

“As I mentioned last night, we as a community must come together and remember that all lives matter, not just black lives or just white lives … all lives matter,” said Armstrong, who is black.

Wilbourn is considered armed and dangerous.

”As I have said many times, to lose a loved one or a family member is a horrific event,” Armstrong said. “Last night we lost not only an officer, but a great man, a dedicated servant to our community, and a family member.”
