  • Baltimore Rioter Who Set CVS On Fire Pleads Guilty In Federal Court

The man who set the CVS in Baltimore on fire during riots that swept over the city in April plead guilty to rioting charges in federal court Wednesday.

Under a plea deal reached between Raymon Carter, 24, and federal prosecutors, the rioter could receive four years in prison, The Baltimore Sun reports.

Carter was originally charged with arson, which comes with a mandatory minimum sentence of five years. Prosecutors agreed to the lesser charge of rioting because he agreed to plea guilty.

The damage to the CVS building cost around $1 million to fix, and under the plea deal Carter will be ordered to pay back at least some of that money, The Washington Post reports.

After seeing some other rioters set small fires outside the store, Carter went inside the store and tried to break into the safe. After his attempt proved unsuccessful, Carter started lighting pharmaceuticals on fire.(Related: INSIDE THE RIOTS: Violence, Fire And Robbery As Crooks Attack Reporters)

Carter was arrested after police released surveillance footage to the public and several people pointed to him as the culprit. Police found him standing outside a liquor store July 1 and he was apprehended after a brief foot-chase.

The rioter will be back in court on Nov. 17 for a sentencing hearing.
