• Gay Marriage Advocates Chant ‘Love Won!’ As Kentucky Clerk Hauled Off To Jail

Hundreds of gay marriage advocates screamed “Love won! Love won!” as the Kentucky clerk refusing to issue gay marriage licenses was hauled off to jail Thursday.

U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning ordered that Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis be put in jail until she agrees to comply with court orders that she issue gay marriage licenses.

When the crowd outside the courthouse learned of the decision, chants of “Love won!” rang out, CBS News reports.

A video of the protesters shows the intense atmospheres, though the chants of “Love Won” are not captured in the clip.

Davis has cited her religious faith in the refusal, saying she cannot put her name on a document endorsing same-sex marriage, but the judge said that was not a satisfactory legal defense. Davis was escorted out of the courtroom by a deputy but not handcuffed as she was put in custody. Bunning said he resorted to jail time because he didn’t think a fine would be enough to sway Davis. The hundreds of gay marriage advocates outside the building were ecstatic at the decision. The interaction between protesters on both sides got outright weird.
