• Jeb to Trump: George Bush ‘Kept Us Safe’ After 9/11

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush earned huge applause from the audience on Wednesday night during the GOP presidential debate after declaring that his brother “kept us safe” while in office.

Billionaire businessman Donald Trump took a shot at President George W. Bush’s administration, claiming the Bush presidency “was such a disaster those last three months that Abraham Lincoln couldn’t have been elected” so much so that Bush “gave us Barack Obama.”

Trump declared that he was the only candidate to push back against sending American troops to Iraq in the early 2000s.

Jeb Bush fired back, invoking the 9/11 terror attacks.

“You know what? As it relates to my brother, there is one thing I know for sure, he kept us safe,” the younger Bush said. “I don’t know if you remember, Donald. You remember the rubble? You remember the firefighter with his arms around it? He sent a clear signal that the United States would be strong and fight Islamic terrorism and he did keep us safe.”

Bush elaborated on his foreign policy stance Wednesday night, calling for an effort to rebuild the military and follow a doctrine of “peace through strength.” But his defense of his brother that caught garnered him the biggest round of applause from the audience of the night.
