The State Department’s new email and transparency czar appointed by Secretary of State John Kerry recently donated to the Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, according to Federal Election Commission records.
An FEC document shows Janice Jacobs, who Kerry appointed to streamline the State Department’s response to records requests, made a $2,700 contribution to Clinton’s campaign on June 22 .Jacobs told the Associated Press she made the donation when she was retired and didn’t expect to be recalled to work.
The State Department is under fire in the wake of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server and the ability to find documents and release them in response to records requests.
Kerry named Jacobs, the former U.S. Ambassador to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, fill the newly-created “transparency coordinator” position Tuesday to hasten the release of documents requested by Congress and the public under the Freedom of Information Act.
