• Note To Congress: Be Respectful Of Pope’s Time During Visit

It appears as if Congressional leadership is concerned members might get a little unruly during the Pope’s scheduled visit to Washington next week.

Legislatures received a note Thursday, signed by John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid, urging them to be on their best behavior.

“Out of respect for the pope’s schedule and the expectation of a timely address, we respectfully request that you assist us by refraining from handshakes and conversations along and down the center aisle,” the note read.

If the pope does reach his hand out to a member, they are permitted to shake it or kiss his ring, Bloomberg reports.

According to The Hill,  the State Department released guidelines on how to dress for the papal visit on Sept. 24, advising lawmakers to dress conservatively in dark colors.

Pope Francis’ is the first ever to address members of Congress.
