• SEE YA! Baltimore Mayor Will Not Seek Re-election

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced Friday she would not run for re-election.

“It was a very difficult decision, but I knew I needed to spend time, the remaining 15 months of my term, focused on the city’s future and not my own,” she said at a press conference Friday.

The mayor’s term has been marked by the death of Freddie Gray in police custody. The death sent her city into riots and catapulted her to the national stage.

Rawlings-Blake took office in 2010 after the previous mayor left amid scandal. She won election in 2011.

The mayor had spent the previous months building a campaign infrastructure, hosting events and fundraisers, but has opted not to run for re-election or any other office, for now.

The decision comes the same week the city agreed to pay Freddie Gray’s family $6.4 million dollars in a settlement. The police involved face trial in October.
