  • Trump Falls, Fiorina Surges In New CNN Poll

Carly Fiorina surged ahead to the no. 2 spot in the Republican primary following the second presidential debate, while front-runner Donald Trump fell by 8 points, a new CNN poll shows.

Fiorina got the support of 15 percent of the Republican primary voters polled in the three days following the second debate, compared to just 3 percent in CNN’s last poll.

She jumped ahead of Senators Marco Rubio and Rand Paul, Gov. Scott Walker, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, Sen. Ted Cruz, former Gov. Jeb Bush, and Dr. Ben Carson.

Trump remains the frontrunner, but support for him fell from 32 percent in the last CNN poll to 24 percent, and 31 percent of Republican primary voters watching said he was the loser.

Fiorina didn’t qualify for the first primetime debate, but her strong second-tier showing prompted CNN to change the rules so she qualified for the second. Twenty-three million people watched that debate.

Fifty-two percent of Republican primary voters polled by CNN said Fiorina was the winner.

Carson dropped four points since the first debate, but is just behind Fiorina at 14 percent. Rubio jumped to third, with 11 percent of support.

The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.

Trump, Fiorina, Carson and Rubio are followed in the poll by Bush (9 percent), Cruz (6 percent), Huckabee (6 percent), Paul (4 percent), Gov. Chris Christie (3 percent), Gov. John Kasich (2 percent) and former Sen. Rick Santorum.

The remaining candidates, including Gov. Scott Walker, got less than 1 percent of support.
