• U.S. General: Pentagon Bombarded With Hacker Emails

Only one of every seven emails sent to the Pentagon isn’t trying to steal U.S. secrets.

That’s according to Air Force Lt. Gen. Alan Lynn, director of the Defense Information Systems Agency, who spoke at an event in Washington D.C. about the deluge of phishing and hacker emails the Pentagon receives every day, Defense One reports.

“Out of 700 million emails we’ll get in a month, only about 98 million are actually good emails,” Lynn said. “The rest are spam and worm attacks.”

Cyber security has come to the forefront of national security policy. An exploit of the Office of Personell Management, likely performed by Chinese hackers, forfeited the personal information of millions of Americans, endangering U.S. agents and diplomats.

The attack showed the U.S.’ weakness in cyber security and raised questions about other vulnerabilities the government may have to hackers.

President Barack Obama has said he is prepared to sanction China over hacking attacks.
