• U.S. Muslims Say Sharia Law Should Supersede The Constitution

Most Muslims, when surveyed by Fox News this week, said that Sharia Law should supersede the U.S. Constitution

“The U.S. Constitution comes from people. Sharia Law comes from Allah,”one member of a New York City-based Islamic cultural center told Fox News’ David Webb. “The Constitution governs this country. Sharia Law governs the whole world. Of course it is above.”

    Many men replied simply, “Yes.”

“No, but I think the Sharia law is made by God, by Allah. And the Constitution is made by people, so it’s not the same,” one answered.

Others spoke of Sharia Law protecting Muslims and their “dignity.”

    A smaller number disagreed.

“Sharia law is completely different than the United States Constitution,” said another man. “As a Muslim, you practice Islamic law, as a Muslim. The United States Constitution, as a citizen, I respect the Constitution, nothing to do with Sharia law. In Muslim countries, Sharia Law is allowed. Other countries? No, you have to respect the Constitution.”

Sharia Law has become a flash-point for controversy this week, following comments made Sunday by Republican presidential candidate, Ben Carson. Carson said that he would not support a Muslim for president, and that Sharia Law was fundamentally incompatible with the Constitution.

Republican presidential candidate and former brain surgeon Ben Carson’s said that he would not support a Shariah-compliant Muslim for president because Islamic law is incompatible with the U.S. Constitution.

Carson was subsequently excoriated as “anti-Muslim,” “bigoted,” “anti-American” and unfit for office by political pundits and politicians of all stripes roasted for his comments, but he has stood by his words.

There are now an estimated 3 million Muslims residing in the United States as citizens or with permanent legal status, and more than 250,000 new Muslim residents enter the U.S. per year as refugees, on work visas and student-based visas, according to the Center for Immigration Studies.

The Center for Security Policy released a poll on Tuesday revealing that 51% of all Muslims surveyed agreed that “Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to Sharia.”

Nearly a quarter of the Muslims polled believed that, and nearly a quarter believed the use of violent jihad was justified in establishing Shariah.
