  • Violent Night In DC Leaves One Dead, Six Wounded In Separate Shootings

Violence erupted all across Washington, D.C. Monday night, leaving six people wounded and one dead in three separate shootings that spanned just five hours.

Police arrived on the scene of a shooting Monday evening in Southeast D.C. to find two victims; one breathing and conscious, the other already dead, WUSA 9 reports.

The shooting, which took place at around 7:30 p.m. just two blocks from the Anacostia Metro station, is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department, though they have released no motive or information on the shooter.

FOX 5 reports that one of the victims was shot at least 15 times.

This latest murder brings the city’s yearly total up to 119, representing a more than 49 percent increase over the same time in 2014. The city saw just 105 murders in all of last year.

About two hours later, two other men were shot around five miles away, again in Southeast D.C., near 46th and G street, though police told FOX 5 the two men are expected to survive.

The night of shooting rounded out across the city early Tuesday morning when two men were shot in the Brightwood neighborhood of Northwest, D.C. The men were wounded, but their injuries are non-life threatening.

District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Cathy Lanier have been battling the city’s rising murder rate since it exploded over the summer and have even started giving out money to keep guns off of the streets.

In August, Bowser announced a new initiative that will see the city offer a reward of $2,500 for a tip that leads police to a gun. If the tip leads to the arrest and conviction in a shooting, the reward jumps to $10,000.
