  • All Bow To Her Highness: DC Mayor’s Staff Forced To Stand When She Enters The Room

Employees in District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Office of Community Affairs are apparently required to stand every time the mayor enters the room.

Staff members in the office were ordered to stand up and greet Bowser when she entered the room for a meeting, according to an email obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation via the D.C. government’s Freedom of Information Act online reading room.

In the email dated Feb. 5, Bowser’s director of community affairs, Charon P.W. Hines directs Bernedia Long, an employee of the agency, to make sure all staff members stood up when they saw Bowser.

“Please send a message to all the staff in the [Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs] suite letting them know when the Mayor enters the MOCA suite, all of us must stand to greet her. Thank you,” she wrote.

Long then forwarded the message to all the members of the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services.

Donald Isaac, Bowser’s director of religious affairs and ever the dutiful staffer, was the only person to reply to the email.

“Duly noted will do,” he wrote.

The subject line in the email read “Protocol,” though it is unclear if the mayor requires all staff members to stand and greet her when she enters a room.

Mike Czin, a Bowser spokesman, didn’t immediately respond to request for comment regarding the protocol.
