Drone footage filmed near the Slovenia-Croatia border shows thousands of migrants and refugees trekking through farmland to make their way to Europe amid the harsh conditions of the oncoming winter.
Hungary sealed its border at the beginning of September, which has since drove unprecedented migrant flows through the tiny nation of Slovenia.Slovenia, which has a population of just 2.06 million, has been struggling to cope with the 60,000 Middle Eastern and North African migrants received in the past week.
Slovenia’s Prime Minister, Miro Cerar, warned Sunday that the EU faces collapse if the bloc cannot agree a way to confront and put an end to the sudden influx along the Balkans route.
Cerar sent out a dramatic call to fellow central and eastern leaders in Brussels for emergency talks.
“If we don’t find a solution today, if we don’t do everything we can today, then it is the end of the EU as such,” said Cerar on Sunday. “If we don’t deliver concrete action, I believe Europe will start falling apart.”
