• Finally: Texas Cuts Off Medicaid Funding To Planned Parenthood

Texas announced Monday that it is yanking government funding from Planned Parenthood following undercover videos of the abortion provider’s officials apparently negotiating the sale of left over body parts of aborted babies.

The Lone Star state informed every planned parenthood affiliate statewide in a letter, obtained by the Houston Chronicle, Monday that is has started the process of terminating their access to millions of dollars in Medicaid funding, alleging numerous violations of the law, including Medicaid fraud and illegal billing practices.

“The state has determined that you and your planned parenthood affiliates are no longer capable of performing medical services in a professionally competent, safe, legal and ethical manner,” Texas Health and Human Services Commission Office of the Inspector General stated in the five-page letter.

The letter also cites one of the undercover videos released earlier this year by the Center for Medical Progress which purports to show the director of research for Planned Parenthood in Houston discussing conduct opponents say is illegal.

Planned Parenthood blasted the decision to cut Medicaid contracts for providing birth control, cancer screenings, HIV tests and preventative care.

“It is completely outrageous that Texas officials are using thoroughly discredited, fraudulent videos to cut women off from preventive health care,” Executive Vice President Dawn Laguens said in a statement. “We will fight back against this outrageous, malicious, political attack in Texas with everything we’ve got, and we will protect women’s access to the health care they need and deserve.”

Planned Parenthood receives most of its federal funding from Medicaid, about $390 million out of $450 million nationwide.
