• UK’s Treatment Of Chinese President Is A ‘National Humiliation,’ Says Former Cameron Adviser

Chinese President Xi Jinping is receiving royal treatment during his visit to London this week, which has sparked criticisms in the United Kingdom.

Jinping arrived Tuesday in London for his four-day visit in the U.K. and was immediately greeted by the royal family. Prime Minister David Cameron has described the visit as a mark of the “golden era” in the two countries’ relationship.

Steve Hilton — former strategy adviser of Cameron who left in 2012 to teach at Stanford University and pursue a business career in the U.S. — calls the extravagant treatment of the president “the worst national humiliation since we went cap in hand to the IMF in the 1970s,” according to The Guardian.

Hilton is upset that Cameron and the royal family “rolls out the red carpet” and gets cozy with a communist regime without any hesitation.

“The truth is that China is a rogue state just as bad as Russia or Iran, and I just don’t understand why we’re sucking up to them rather than standing up to them as we should be,” he said.

Cameron and Jinping announced Wednesday a $27 billion agreement to build a nuclear power plant in the in the city of Somerset. State-owned Chinese energy company General Nuclear Power Corporation will fund a third of the costs, according to BBC.

Jinping also admitted China has “room for improvement” on human rights issues.
