Donald Trump held a press conference with black pastors Monday at Trump Tower in New York City, in the face of criticism from some in the African-American community who claim the real-estate magnate espouses racist rhetoric.
“I think they want to see victory because it is about we want to win and we want to win together,” Trump told the press after the closed-door meeting. “I thought it was an amazing meeting. I met some fantastic people, some of whom I’ve known. You know it lasted for more than two and a half hours. We came up with lots of good ideas and lots of future ideas. But I thought it was an amazing meeting.”Dr. Darrell Scott, Pastor of New Spirit Revival Center in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, said the meeting was a “meaningful dialogue.”
“We voiced concerns that were sensitive to the African-American community,” Scott said, “I didn’t have concerns [with Trump] because I was already convinced, but there were concerns that the liberal media has put out portraying Mr. Trump in a light that I know he’s not the type of person he was depicted to be. So what we were able to do today was allow to see his heart for themselves and to make up their own minds about him. And they find out that he’s not the person that the media has depicted him to be.”
“We made history today because we had had meaningful dialogue from Mr. Donald Trump and we voiced concerns that were sensitive to the African-American community. And we asked questions were answered and we were satisfied with the answers and we’re a unified front right here,” Scott explained. “We had a wonderful time, a wonderful dialogue, wonderful fellowship, wonderful interaction. It was a great day.”
Trump abruptly canceled the event on Sunday, but suddenly appeared for the chaotic press conference at Trump Tower following his closed-door meeting with the group.
