• France Closes Borders, Dispatches Military To The Streets

French President Francois Hollande has announced that his country’s borders have been closed and the military has been dispatched to the streets.

In an address to the nation, Hollande declared a state of emergency and said the army is being deployed in and around Paris. He called the attacks taking place in Paris, which have so far left 60 dead and 100 people as hostages, a “horror.”

He added that French security forces are assaulting a site in Paris. This is the first time France has declared a state of emergency since the Algerian war, which took place between 1954 and 1962. It is also the first time a curfew has been imposed since the dark days of world war two in 1944.

French media is reporting that 60 people have been killed after multiple shootings with automatic weapons and shotguns Kalashnikov and three explosions close to the Stade de France — a number more than five times that of the dead in the Charlie Hebdo massacre in January.

Police have confirmed a hostage situation has now developed at the Bataclan Arts Center, with 100 people reportedly taken prisoner.

The attack took place while France and Germany’s soccer teams were playing a friendly match at the Stade de France. President Francois Hollande who was inside the stadium at the time of the explosions has since been evacuated to the Interior Ministry.
