A man was caught on camera Friday afternoon swinging a samurai sword, performing pretend lunges, and fighting an imaginary duel on the glass spiral staircase of Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue Apple Store, bringing the packed store to a standstill.
The man was recorded wearing a hat and sunglasses swinging the sword as he descended the stairs. Two off-duty NYPD officers tackled the man and confiscated his saber. The man, identified as 30 year old Hsu Chien, was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon and taken to Bellevue Hospital Center for a psychiatric evaluation.
Police say the man walked into the Apple Store, on the ground floor of the General Motors Building at 767 Fifth Ave., and threatened to kill himself before taking out the sword and waving it around.
New Yorkers told CBS2 they thought they had seen it all until now, but the incident did not deter people from visiting the Apple Store that was bustling and packed for the rest of the night.
