• Poll: Almost All Republican Candidates Are More Likable Than Hillary Clinton

A new Gallup favorability poll released Thursday shows that American adults find several Republican presidential candidates far more likable than Hillary Clinton.

Ben Carson has the highest net favorability of any major candidate, +21 points, while Donald Trump brings up the rear with -22 points. Hillary Clinton has -6 points net favorability, trailing behind seven Republicans as well as Bernie Sanders. Carly Fiorina has the second highest net favorability, +6, followed by Marco Rubio, +5.

This data was collected from Oct. 19 through Nov. 1, which included and was likely influenced by the third Republican debate.

This data points out a major problem with Trump’s campaign. While he has energized support among part of the voting base, the very positions and comments that earned that support have turned off a large section of the voting base, who say they would never be able to support him.

Carson, who used to be a relatively obscure candidate, has become about as well known as candidates like Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, but is still not as well-known as candidates like Jeb Bush, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. It’s noteworthy since a candidate’s favorability can fall as their notoriety grows. Carson does do better with black adults than his GOP opponents. He has a net favorable of -1 among black adults, who largely vote Democrat, but about half of black adults are not familiar with him.

“[Carson] enjoys a high familiarity rating among Republicans, but if he is to become a better-known figure nationally, he will have to ‘introduce’ himself to Democrats,” Andrew Dugan of Gallup writes. “If normal political forces prevail, though, it is likely that expanded familiarity will come at the cost of lower popularity. If more Democrats do come to know him — even if they decide they don’t like him — it is a sign that his once-improbable campaign is becoming much less so.”
